Step 0 · pick your topic
0/5 done
STEP 01

Open Perplexity & sign in

Click 'Open Perplexity' (top-right of this slide) → sign in with your personal Google account. Free plan is fine.

EXPECTYou land on the search page with a big prompt box.
TIPToggle 'Focus → Web' if you see other options.
STEP 02

Ask the landscape question

Paste this into Perplexity and read the answer + sources it cites.

Give me a 2025 landscape of [pick a topic above]. Cover: (1) who the top 5 players are, (2) rough market size, (3) 3 recent big news items with dates, (4) 3 non-obvious trends. Cite a real source for every claim.
EXPECTA structured answer with numbered citations you can click.
TIPHover the little numbers — they are the real sources. Don't trust anything without one.
STEP 03

Dig into ONE citation

Click the source that surprised you most. Skim it for 60 seconds. Copy the URL into your notes doc.

EXPECTYou'll notice Perplexity summarized fairly — or shaved a nuance. Both are useful.
TIPIf the source is a random blog, downgrade your trust. Prefer .gov, .edu, big publications.
STEP 04

Ask the sharp follow-up

Perplexity remembers the thread. Ask this next to force it deeper.

For [pick a topic above] specifically in Pakistan: what's different from the global picture? Where are the gaps a teenage founder could exploit in the next 12 months? Be blunt. Cite sources.
EXPECTA very different, much more local answer.
TIPThis is the move that separates 'I googled' from 'I did research'.
STEP 05

Save 3 sources for NotebookLM

Pick the 3 best sources across your two answers. Copy their URLs into a plain doc. We'll upload them in the next demo.

EXPECTA tiny list of 3 URLs you'd defend to a VC.
TIPIf a source is a PDF, download it now — NotebookLM likes PDFs.
