Guided demo: NotebookLM

Same topic. Upload the sources you saved from Perplexity. Turn them into a private expert + a podcast.

Open NotebookLM
Step 0 · pick your topic
0/5 done
STEP 01

Open NotebookLM & create a new notebook

Click 'Open NotebookLM' → sign in with the SAME Google account → hit 'Create new notebook'.

EXPECTA blank notebook with a big 'Add sources' panel.
TIPFree tier gives you plenty of notebooks. Name this one after your topic.
STEP 02

Upload your 3 sources

Paste the URLs from the Perplexity demo, or drop the PDFs you downloaded. Wait for the little green checkmarks.

EXPECTNotebookLM 'reads' each source and shows a summary card.
TIPIf a URL fails, download the page as PDF (Ctrl+P → Save as PDF) and upload that instead.
STEP 03

Ask a question ONLY it can answer

Ask this in the chat. NotebookLM will only answer from YOUR sources — and cite the exact paragraph.

Based on the sources I uploaded about [pick a topic above]: what are the 3 sharpest customer pain points, and which source proves each one? Quote a line from each source.
EXPECTAn answer with little numbered pills — click them to jump to the exact spot in the source.
TIPThis is why NotebookLM beats ChatGPT for real research: zero hallucination on facts inside your docs.
STEP 04

Generate the Audio Overview (podcast)

In the right panel, click 'Audio Overview → Generate'. Give it ~3 minutes. Two AI hosts will discuss YOUR sources.

EXPECTA 5–8 min podcast that sounds like two humans nerding out about your topic.
TIPPlay it on your walk home. It's the fastest way to actually retain a topic.
STEP 05

Ask one 'so what' question

Type the last question. Screenshot the answer for your project kit.

If I were a 16-year-old founder attacking [pick a topic above], based ONLY on these sources, what's the ONE opportunity I should chase this month? Defend it with quotes from the sources.
EXPECTA grounded, source-backed answer — this becomes the seed of your Day 3 build.
TIPSave the screenshot. You'll paste it into your Day 5 deep-research report.
